Summary

For an intelligent agent to perform knowledge-based tasks, it must be able to access from its knowledge the concepts required for the task at hand.

This research provides methods for accessing needed concepts by providing a content addressable, virtual knowledge base.

It must be able to access the knowledge of those concepts that is relevant within the current problem-solving context.

This research provides methods for accessing relevant knowledge in coherent packets called viewpoints.

Much work in artificial intelligence concentrates on problem-solving tasks, assuming that the relevant knowledge will be readily accessible. This research provides methods for making that assumption valid.
