HOW TO GET A MATLAB LICENSE 101

1. The default matlab version is "r2007b".  

If you get an error of this sort:

axolotl$ matlab
License checkout failed.
License Manager Error -4
Maximum number of users for MATLAB reached.
Try again later.
To see a list of current users use the lmstat utility or contact your
License Administrator.

Diagnostic Information:

it means all the licenses are taken.



2.  How to check license availability:

>> /lusr/share/software/matlab-r2007b/etc/lmstat -a

Look on the top of the printed text for this: "Users of MATLAB:  (Total of 60 licenses issued;  Total of 60 licenses in use)"



3. Using other versions of matlab:

>> /lusr/share/software/matlab-r2007a/bin/matlab
or
>> /lusr/share/software/matlab-r2008a.b0rk3d/bin/matlab  
or
>>  /lusr/share/software/matlab-r2008a/bin/matlab



If the response is slow for any of these.  Then, try
>> setenv LD_LIBRARY_PATH /usr/X11R6/lib/
