Project Illuminate: Showcase Information

Showcase Plans and Guidelines

On Friday night, there will be a project showcase where you will show off your project and let your fellow campers all "ooooooh" and "aaaaaah" over all your hard work. Prizes will be awarded in various categories.

On Saturday morning, you will have another project showcase where you will present your projects for your parents to "ooooooh" and "aaaaaah" over.

During Thursday's lab, we'll ask you for your group name and other information related to your project. During Friday's lab, you'll be expected to record your presentation---so plan to finish on Thursday so that you are ready to record on Friday!

For the presentations, your group will introduce yourselves, and show off your project. :) If your project is interactive, you may demonstrate it one time.

Materials

The materials for your presentation include, of course, your Arduino board and your lights. However, should you need other materials (such as markers, chicken wire, zip ties, foam board, tape, etc.) please talk to a member of the camp staff and we'll do our best to accommodate you.

Possible Award Categories

Rules of the Showcase

  1. Pair programming and group programming guidelines must be followed, and every member must be able to explain and answer questions about its implementation.
  2. For every project except message writing, the project must run at least 15 seconds and no more than three minutes.
  3. You must use at least three light colors in your project.
  4. During the presentation, every group member must come forward and have a role.
  5. You must submit all relevant files for your project to one of the camp staff. These files include code and any other necessary materials for your presentation, such as music, as well as your programming log. (We will assist you in this process after you record your presentation on Friday.)

Steps for Recording and Project Submission:

  1. Secure your Arduino to your project using tape. Be certain to leave access to both the USB connector and the power connector.
  2. Label your board with your camp and week and your team number (e.g., "2024 AW Team 21"). Label it in metallic pen and so that it is upright when the board is upright.
  3. Finish coding, etc.
  4. Practice your presentation, including any necessary synchronization.
  5. Be ready to record when the PAs come to get your team.

  7. Fill out the end-of-camp survey (each person does this).
    • Academy Survey (We will activate this link later in the week)
  8. Put a copy of your pair programming log into the same directory as your project code.
  9. Flip your cup to red, and Alison or Clare will come help you submit your code and log.
  10. Play games on the atrium bridge while you wait for your fellow campers!
