Fibonacci Numbers
Leonardo of Pisa, known as Fibonacci, introduced this series to Western mathematics in 1202:

The ratio between successive Fibonacci numbers approaches the golden ratio φ = ( 1 + √ 5 ) / 2 = 1.618034... .
