Peter's History and Contact Information

I am currently an associate professor in the
Department of Computer Sciences at The University of Texas at Austin.
(short professional bio)

From September, 1999 to March, 2002 I was a Senior Researcher
in the Artificial Intelligence Principles Research Department at AT&T Labs Research.

I graduated in 1998 with a Ph.D. in CS from CMU. My advisor was Manuela Veloso.

Her advisor was Jaime Carbonell, whose advisor was Roger Schank.

My Ph.D. thesis is entitled "Layered Learning in Multi-Agent Systems". It was published as a book by MIT Press.
While at CMU, I played violin with the CMU philharmonic in concerts at the Kennedy Center, Boston's Symphony Hall, and New York's Carnegie Hall.

I graduated in 1993 from The University of Chicago with a BS in math.
I played on the Men's Soccer team for 4 years.

I graduated in the class of 1989 from Amherst Central High School near Buffalo, NY. (Alumni page)

My sister Mira earned her Ph.D. in environmental engineering at UVA in 2004 and is now a professor at Drexel. My father, Russell, is a professor of sociology at American University, and my mother, Rala, is a speech/language pathologist at Gallaudet University. Mira scanned in a good picture of them.

In my free time, I continue to play soccer and violin when I'm not preoccupied with raising my daughter (1998) and two sons (2000, 2002).
