With the weather warming up in these parts, this month marks a return to rum. Ron Viejo de Caldas is the second point of the "rum triangle" that also includes Saint James and Barbancourt. It tastes much more flowery than the other two, which makes it a nice after-dinner drink. As with the other rums in the triangle, Caldas should be drunk neat, unsullied by the likes of cola.
The manufacturer of this rum also makes another cane-based liquor that I have been assured tastes like paint thinner, so make sure you memorize the label before you run off to the liquor store.
