International Snipe Class - Texas |
Welcome to the home of Texas Snipe sailing and racing. The Snipe is a 15-1/2 foot, 2 person, one design racing dinghy with a rich history. Designed by William Crosby in 1931, it has evolved into a modern, tactical racing dinghy with fleets around the world. Nearly 30,000 boats have been build worldwide - construction quality is excellent and older boats are both comptetive and affordable.
Texas has a long tradition in the Snipe class with Snipe fleet #1 being chartered at the Dallas Sailing club (DSC) on White Rock Lake in 1932. That year, Dr. Hub E. Isaacs of DSC was named the first Commodore of the Snipe Class International Sailing Association (SCIRA). Over the years, five Texans have served as SCIRA commodores. The Snipe National Championships have been held five times on the lakes and bays of Texas, most recently in 1994 on Lake Ray Hubbard on the outskirts of Dallas.
Snipe sailing and racing is alive and well in Texas, and we invite you to join us. There are active sailors in Dallas, Houston/Galveston, and Austin, and a burgeoning Texas regatta circuit. Charter and for sale boats are available and we have sailors ready to help you climb the learning curve. The fleets are friendly and the regattas both competitive and social.
Come find out why our class motto is: Serious Sailing, Serious Fun.
