Support for Video Storage in File Systems
Today's file systems are optimized for storing text files. To enable
these file systems to support video data, we have developed techniques
for efficient placement, retrieval, fault-tolerance, and caching of
video data in file systems. These results have been instantiated in
Symphony,
a file system that exports multiple service classes
(e.g., best-effort, real-time) and supports the coexistence of data
type and application specific policies for placement, retrieval, fault
tolerance, and caching.
This research builds upon a large body of literature as well as our
prior research on designing video storage servers.
