The study described above had been mainly conducted before

Much
progress has been made since then, particularly on the theoretical front.
In this postscript, we summarize these recent advances, and further discuss
biological plausibility of the model. We also give an updated discussion
on the origin of synchronous oscillations in the visual cortex.
