Research Guide

Sign up for the directed reading program (DiRP)
Look up professors who do research in areas you are interested in

Take their classes (not required)
Read their papers (strongly recommend) - will help you to show that you are aware of what kind of research they do
Email them to ask about doing research with them

Research options

Course credit by doing a CS370
URA position which is often paid (ranges between 10-20/hr week)

If a professor's research interests you and they are not in the CS department, you can still reach out to them

Grad School Guide

Masters

2 years
UT offers a 5 year BS + MS program you can apply to your junior spring
Have to pay to attend

PhD

~6 years
Very research oriented
You DON’T need a masters to do a PhD
Will be paid to attend (not a lot of money though)

Grad school application requires writing a Statement of Purpose (SoP)
GRE

A standardized test that you will need to take before October of your senior year
Many schools require you to submit a GRE result
There are also quite a few schools that leave the GRE as optional

You need recommendation letters from professors

Build connections with professors
