The University of Texas at Austin Department of Computer Sciences (UTCS) Friends of Computer Sciences (FoCS) 2005 Honors Brunch was held in conjunction with the College of Natural Sciences (CNS) Career Expo on September 26, 2005 at the Frank Erwin Center.

Amidst the buzz of recruiting and networking activity, connections and relationships were forged.

The FoCS brunch allows FoCS companies exclusive promotion to a select group of students including Turing Scholars, Women in Computer Sciences, graduate students, student leaders, and top GPA undergraduates — the best of the best at UTCS. FoCS members were recognized on screen and in print as students gathered information about prospective employers. FoCS recruiters had the rapt attention of a table full

of top students.

"We had tremendous success in identifying suitable candidates at the brunch. I feel the most important benefit was felt by the students who had the opportunity to evaluate many companies in a relaxed environment."
Biren Shah, National Instruments

Both students and FoCS members described it as an extremely worthwhile event. Several FoCS members said it was exactly the type of event they needed for their recruitment efforts. Although nervous when they walked in, students walked out with big smiles on their faces, grateful for the opportunity to come, and excited about their futures. The event was also a great opportunity for UTCS faculty members to network with industry professionals, introduce their students to them, and enjoy a delicious meal with friends.
