We are proud to announce that Texas Computer Science alum Dr. Forest Baskett was selected for induction into the College of Natural Sciences' Hall of Honor. He earned the Hall of Honor Distinguished Alumni Award for demonstrating pride and involvement in the university while also providing indispensable contributions to his profession.
Dr. Baskett is being celebrated for his contributions to the field of computing, as well as his continued support for the college. Among other impressive professional accomplishments, Dr. Baskett has played a key role in several commercial products and large-scale projects such as the development of the operating system for the original Cray-1 computer. In addition, he has made Forbes’ annual Midas List several times for his bold investments in technology. He is currently engaged as a general partner for New Enterprise Associates, and was previously the Senior Vice President of Research and Development and Chief Technology Officer at Silicon Graphics Inc.
Dr. Baskett received his PhD in computer science from The University of Texas at Austin. During his studies, he worked at the university's Computational Center, distinguishing himself by writing the center’s billing system and eventually managing a staff of programmers. He remains an active member of the Texas Computer Science advisory council, a community of ambassadors to the department that work toward accomplishing the department’s academic and societal goals.
Hall of Honor is an annual event hosted by the College of Natural Sciences that aims to recognize friends and alumni who have both supported the college and have achieved excellence in their careers.
