All four teams from the UT Programming Team finished top six, including taking first place, in the South Central USA Regional Competition of the International Collegiate Programming contest last month.
The competition, part of the ICPC Foundation, comprised 54 teams from Louisiana, Oklahoma and Texas. Computer Science students Aaryan Prakash, Dylan Smith and Mark Wen, the top team, will advance to the North American Championship in May 2025.
Trung Dang, a current computer science Ph. D student, coached the four teams, assisted with CS professors Etienne Vouga and Glenn Downing. The university has been competing since 1997 and first went to the World Finals in 2017 and attended every year since. During the 2024 competition, UT finished 13th and advanced to the World Finals in Kazakhstan. Vouga and Downing each earned coaching distinctions at last year's National competition.
