‘To do things they hadn't even thought of’: Senior Turing Scholar publishes second computer science research paper

10/01/2024 - Computer Science and Mathematics senior Alan Baade really enjoys spending hours on problems.Especially the particularly hard ones, he said. Spending 40 hours on one equation with a small break for sleep somewhere in the middle is rewarding to him.“I think it's because you can tell at the end of this you are going to understand the material,” Baade said.  “You're going to understand computers.”

Jacqueline Gibson Earns 2018 President’s Leadership Award

05/02/2018 - Undergraduate student Jacqueline Gibson is one of six recipients of the 2018 President’s Leadership Award, which is given annually by the Texas Exes. Jacqueline and her fellow awardees represent some the most active participants on the Forty Acres and set the pace on campus. According to the Alcalde, "These students are what one could conservatively call active participants—not simply for showing up, but for taking charge, too."

This is her second internship, her first one being at Facebook in Palo Alto, California. She is simultaneously doing research on a SRC-URO fellowship in Computational Epidemiology.
