CS309: The Essentials of AI for Life and Society
Fall 2024
Course Description
This class was a 3-credit-hour course that was designed to be an introduction to Artificial Intelligence. Each week, students needed to complete asynchronous work by Tuesday night, consisting of assigned readings, recorded lectures, and written reflections on both. Then, on Thursdays they were required to attend a live session with the instructor that covered topics raised in the students' written reflections, as well as small group discussions on assigned topics. They were also asked to complete 5 non-programming assignments designed to familiarize them with AI algorithms and paradigms, as well as a final project reflecting on the societal implications of a specific AI technology. The set of fourteen modules on fundamental concepts for AI literacy, as well as the ethical and societal implications of AI technologies, included pre-recorded videos created by experts on the topics from across the university, as well as live sessions led by Prof. Stone. Recordings of these lectures are now available for you enjoy and learn from at any time. Only your curiosity and willingness to explore are needed - no prior technical knowledge required.
Students were asked to complete the associated reading assignments prior to attending the lectures.
This course was designed collaboratively by the Computer Science Department and Good Systems.
