Section 2.1 Update for Friday's BLIS Retreat

Thursday Sept. 30, 2021

Folks,

We are in the home stretch getting ready for Friday.

Some comments:

All information is at https://www.cs.utexas.edu/users/flame/BLISRetreat2021

- Information about the zoom link is at
https://www.cs.utexas.edu/users/flame/BLISRetreat2021/subsection-2.html

- The BLIS Retreat is meant to be relatively unstructured. This
exhibits itself in a number of ways:

o We have scheduled sessions, but not strict times within sessions.
This leaves a lot of time for discussion and some flexibility to the
  speakers.

o Some speakers have been more timely with their materials than
others. Some “hot off the press” results are still coming in.
Thus, not all videos and related materials are up yet.

o If you did not sign up to be a speaker, you should feel free to
have a few slides ready to present during the various discussion
periods and/or at the end of the program.

- The rules are that everyone watch the three minute ‘short videos’
ahead of time. Some will then go through the additional materials so
that we can have a healthy discussion. Given how much time is being
saved by the format we have chosen, please take the time to do your
homework. The videos are posted in the sessions. You can navigate
through all contributions by just forwarding from page to page.

Regarding text discussions:

- Please use the Zoom chat to communicate regarding an ongoing talk.

e- Please use the BLIS Discord server (retreat thread) for side
discussions. For information regarding the BLIS Discord server see
https://www.cs.utexas.edu/users/flame/BLISRetreat2021/Discord.html

- We did not build in a lunch break since people are in different time
zones. The assumption is that people will take their break while
monitoring the retreat.

I will try to eventually put up recordings of the sessions, checking
with people who are recorded to make sure they are ok with the
material being shared.

If you have questions, please send me e-mail at rvdg@cs.utexas.edu.
