The UT^2 Game Bot Judged More Human Than Humans

08/14/2012 - The UT^2 game bot, created by Jacob Schrum, Igor Karpov, and Professor Risto Miikkulainen, won the Humanlike Bot Competition at the IEEE World Congress on Computational Intelligence (WCCI 2012). The UT^2 bot is the first winning bot in the history of the Humanlike Bot Competition to be judged as human more often than half the human players participating in the evaluation.

UT robots win soccer championship in Mexico City

06/26/2012 - UT Austin Villa, a team of robots led by University of Texas computer scientists, took home two 2012 Robot Soccer World Cup division championships during the RoboCup 2012 in Mexico City this month.

2012 UTCS Ph.D. Hooding Ceremony

05/21/2012 - UTCS honored new Ph.D. graduates at its annual hooding ceremony. Each new graduate received a short testimonial from his or her graduate research advisor. The new doctors were then hooded by UTCS Professor Peter Stone. Afterwards, a reception was held for graduates, faculty, friends and family.

Good Bytes and Good Luck!

Michael Dahlin's Paper is Among the Best in History of HPDC Conference

03/12/2012 - "WebOS: Operating System Services for Wide Area Applications," a paper co-authored by Michael Dahlin has been selected as one of the top 20 papers in 20 years of publications from the HPDC, the International ACM Symposium on High-Performance Parallel and Distributed Computing. Co-authors of the paper, are Amin Vahdat, Tom Anderson, Eshwar Belani, David Culler, Paul Eastham, and Chad Yoshikawa.

GradFest Open House 2012

02/27/2012 - The department hosted prospective Ph.D. students at GradFest 2012, a two-day exploration of UTCS research, resources, and community. Over 30 admitted students attended panel discussions, toured labs, and met with faculty one-on-one. Current graduate students hosted the out-of-towners in their own homes for a real look at life as a UTCS grad student.

Alumnus Receives NSF Grant for Early Career Development

02/15/2012 - UTCS alumnus Dr. Donald Porter has been selected to receive the prestigious National Science Foundation Faculty Early Career Development (CAREER) Program award, an award that recognizes promising young faculty who exemplify the role of teacher-scholar through outstanding research, excellent education and the integration of both education and research.
