UTCS Students Compete in World’s Largest Student-Run Hackathon

02/06/2013 - University of Texas sophomores Sai Avala (CS), Suvamsh Shivaprasad (CS), Sourabh Shirhatti (computer engineering), and Ankit Tandon (computer engineering) competed together in the PennApps Spring 2013 competition. Their work, which was inspired by the coffee machine in the UT Flawn Academic Center, involved hacking a coffee machine to make it voice controlled through an Android app they developed.

University of Texas Computer Science Students Dominate Austin’s Global Game Jam

01/28/2013 - Global Game Jam (GGJ) is the world’s largest game jam, a competition similar to a hackathon in which people come together to make video games based on a common theme. What started out as a relatively small competition has grown dramatically, with the number of games produced going from only 370 in 2009 to over 2,100 in the 2012 competition.
